The Mountain House was designed for a comfortable, relaxed retirement. The couple worked with Chris on the initial layout to ensure they received bush and valley views whilst achieving good solar orientation and the capture of cool summer breezes.
The exterior called for a low maintenance, simple design. The materials chosen are fibre cement and western red cedar weatherboards, cement rendered block work, feature face block work and recycled Australian hardwood posts. Zinc was chosen for gutters, roofing and water tanks for its durability.
Sustainable features of this home include 60,000 litres of water storage, solar hot water panels, high R rated insulation throughout and core filled block work to the exterior. Anodised windows with energy rated glass provide functional cross flow ventilation.
Chris's team designed and constructed the gardens to compliment the residence. The gardens were required to be low maintenance and also encourage the native bird life in the area.
