The clients of this spacious, dual living residence dreamed of creating a home nestled in this north facing rural aspect. Chris worked closely with the owners over the eight months to ensure their vision for the property was fulfilled.
The dwelling houses the clients in a generous, light filled, contemporary home and also provides a comfortable in-law accommodation within the building envelope.
Externally, the home combines fibre cement facade, colour bond cladding and stone veneer, resulting in a modern, relaxed, low maintenance home.
Inside the Avoca House is open plan with large glass sliders separating indoor and outdoor zones. The clients carefully chose products such as stone bench tops for the kitchens and bathrooms, as well as timber flooring for practicality as well as highlight windows to gain natural light throughout.
The greener features of the house were carefully considered. The design relies on a northern orientation to harness winter warmth and summer shade. A central combustion wood heater also provides additional heating in the winter months. The home features 48,000 litres of water storage, excellent thermal mass, high-energy rating window glazing and cross flow ventilation to capitalize on cooling breezes.
The creation of this family home was a collaborative project. The clients worked closely with Chris and are delighted with the end result.
